Client: Eurosport and Saxo Bank
Ace & Ace filmed on a co-production with Eurosport when Team Tinkoff-Saxo, the cycling team under Bjarne Riis and with Alberto Contador and Peter Sagan on the team, decided to try and climb the Kilimanjaro mountain in Africa during a team building exercise.
Climbing Kilimanjaro is famously difficult (only between 45-85% make it depending on the route and time spent climbing it). Not everybody can get there due to altitude sickness – even super-fit cyclists! Kilimanjaro sits on the northern border of Tanzania, overlooking Kenya, just 200 miles south of the Equator. From the top you have a magnificent view of the nearest mountain, Mount Meru, just 60km away to the south-west. Kilimanjaro is a volcano with a small glacier on top, and at the inner Reusch Crater (1.3km in diameter) one can still see signs of volcanic activity, including fumaroles, the smell of sulphur and a third crater, the Ash Pit, which is 130m deep by 140m wide.
Here you can see the French version of the programme which was broadcast on Eurosport: Sports Insiders.
Furthermore the film material was used for a high-end promotional piece for Saxo Bank, one of the team’s biggest sponsors.
